Shots Fired at Lafayette Police Officer

After midnight on Sunday July 12, 2020 Lafayette police officers responded to 1111 Mudd Avenue in Lafayette, Louisiana in reference to multiple vehicles gathered in the parking lot of the establishment and refusing to leave.  While clearing the lot an unknown suspect fired a gunshot in the direction of officers, striking a police unit. The suspect remains unidentified at this time. If you have any information regarding this incident please contact the Lafayette Police Department.

This illustrates why there is no such thing as a “routine” call in police work. While simply trying to clear a parking lot officers can become targets of gunfire. Many of us are content and comfortable in believing this only happens in big cities, far away. But the truth is criminals don’t respect the boundaries of the law, nor does belonging to a particular geographical area, community or neighborhood make you safe from victimization. Your Lafayette Police officers deal with many of the same issues that occur across other parts of our nation.

Will our elected leaders stand with the police officers who are protecting our community?  Or should our police officers fear and be concerned with our local officials becoming just another faction seeking to eliminate their jobs? STOP TARGETING POLICE OFFICER WITH RETALIATORY MEASURES.
