03 Jul LPD Officer Injured On Duty
On the night of July 2, 2020 Lafayette Police Department officers were dispatched to a local business on Evangeline Thruway in reference to the suspect harassing customers and appearing to be high. When an officer came in contact with the suspect he charged at him, attacking the officer and causing the officer to suffer injuries to his head that required emergency room treatment. Even in the face of this blatant attack and injury this officer continued to maintain his composure and reverting to skills he learned in training scenarios to overcome the aggression using the minimal force necessary to bring the suspect into custody without further injury to anyone else.
Our members, Lafayette Police Officers, display this type of valor and courageousness on a daily basis. Even when facing these incredibly challenging times, they hold the line for our community. We will always stand united with our community, for the love of our community and we will always #BackTheBlue.
